Although I love to drink wine--and my husband and I are certainly experts at polishing off a bottle or two--for a real expert’s opinion on which wines are best for cold nights and winter meals I turn to my friend Lisa Semler.

A joint family owner in Malibu Family Wines, (which has been featured in The New York Times, WineSpectator.com, Wine Enthusiast, Los Angeles magazine and more), the beautiful Lisa Semler grows grapes on the widely recognizable Saddlerock Ranch property which is a breathtaking 1,000 acre parcel in the Santa Monica Mountains famous for its rock formations. The Semler and Saddlerock wines produced in Malibu are fabulous California wines that prove you don’t have to drive to Napa for a superior wine tasting experience.

I can tell you first hand that the Malibu Family Wines are coveted bottles in our cellar, placed squarely by that cute hubby of mine in the “You Can’t Drink This Without Me” section, which he has secured with lasers and beams.

Good thing I have a secret connection with the owner...

So without further adieu, here’s Lisa’s List:

“For winter, I would definitely recommend our
Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 that is a full body wine with aromatic nose hints at flavors of currant and cassis, combining with black cherry and silky tannins to provide a sensual wine experience.  Great for cozy evenings by the fireplace.

Our Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 RESERVE is a wonderful wine that is aged in French Oak and can be purchased in our tasting room located at 31800 Mulholland Highway in Malibu.”

Not just the reds make her list though...

“Sauvignon Blanc is the new release of the first Semler White Wine, 100% Malibu Estate Grown. Try the 2007 Semler Sauvignon Blanc. Only 332 cases of this limited production wine were made so this will be available for a short time only.  Hawaiian tropical fruit flavors make this perfect for pairing with all seafood dishes.”
