Living through hard times and wearing clothes donated to charities left on the front door step of her home, Shawna rifled through the bags for things that would fit her and pulled out a dress that she slipped into for church one Sunday morning. While at church, a girl recognized the dress Shawna was wearing as one that she had donated to the “needy.” The girl—too young herself to realize that Shawna’s family was in that category--called Shawna out on it and embarrassed her. Shawna vowed never to let that happen again. She taught herself to sew and began altering the donated clothing in her closet to such an extent that no one would ever recognize what she wore again. Basically, everyone is to bring up to 5 accessory items (shoes, purses, costume jewelry, hats, belts, etc.) that for whatever reason you just don't use. Items should be in like new or VERY VERY good condition - no stains, no tears, nothing that looks more than gently used, AND as close to current season as possible (nothing from beyond 2006 please, unless its truely vintage :-) This is great for those things that you might've bought or received as a gift and maybe wore once and went "Hmmm... not really my style after all" but never returned for whatever reason. Tucked away in the Berkshires in Lenox, Massachusetts is an adorable store that everyone with a little prince or princess should explore. This children’s clothing boutique that opened about a year and a half ago, is a word of mouth gem.
Cynthia Brode, store owner, offers a “variety of cool, unique things for kids.” The exterior is charming, but wander in through the beckoning red door and an exciting parlor waits to be explored.
